Indian Head massage


Indian Head Massage is part of the Ayurvedic healing system dating back nearly 4000 years. It encourages the body’s innate healing energy and has been practised in India for over 1000 years as part of daily life. The treatment is a wonderfully relaxing and beneficial therapy which consists of the massage of the upper back, shoulders, upper-arms, neck, scalp, face and ears followed by energy balancing. It is a seated massage without the need to undress and the use of oil is optional.

    When it is not suitable to have a Indian Head Massage

    A massage will usually have very beneficial effects, however, there are certain medical conditions that make it inadvisable. If you have any of the following contra indications, please do NOT book a massage

  • Fever

  • Contagious or infectious diseases including colds and flu

  • Being under the influence of drugs or alcohol

  • Neuritis

  • Skin diseases

  • Aneurosa (Localised dilation of the blood vessels (commonly in the artery in the temple/forehead area in the elderly)

  • Whiplash injury to the neck (3-6 months)

    What to expect on your visit for a Indian Head Massage

    Before the massage


    On your first visit the massage therapist will begin by carrying out a consultation during which you will be asked about your medical history, current physical condition, stress levels, any pain you may be experiencing and if you have any specific goals for the session. This information will assist the therapist to assess your needs and to determine what techniques to use and how to structure the session to achieve the desired goals from the massage.

    Your treatment will take place on chair in a warm and comfortable room. It is seated massage without the need to undress, although you will be asked to remove the outer layer of clothing like jackets and jumpers.

    During the massage

    The treatment will begin with the massage of the shoulders and upper back followed by upper arms, neck and scalp. During the treatment the therapist will use various techniques ranging from relaxing strokes to more vigorous frictions to release muscle tension.

    The treatment will end with the massage of the face and ears followed by chakra balancing.

    After the massage

    The therapist will leave you to relax and allow you to get ready in your own time.
